Living the most out of it

10 Aug

There are 5 things in life you cannot recover: A stone…after it’s thrown. A word…after it is said. An occasion…after it’s missed. The time…after it’s gone. A person…after they die. Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.

Inspired

12 Jul

Blessed by the recent happenings and good luck. I was inspired to share what i felt was the secret recipe for results. No shortcut, just add more disciplined.

“Ink your desire. Figure the rules of the game.
Practice, Review, Repeat.
Relationship, Family, Work, Business or Sports.
I control and I design my destiny.”

Ophiuchus / Serpentarius

16 Jan

Kenix: Do you think you fit into Sagittarius?

Me: [Took a brief 3 to 4 seconds thinking] They always says i (Sagittarius) like freedom which i never really thought i’m a big fan of. The stars also described that i love travelling when i always felt, there is no place like home… haha…

Me: Why?

Kenix: [Hands me an article on her iPhone that says i actually belongs to the 13th horoscope] The 13th horoscope is Ophiuchus better known as Serpentarius. [Nov 29 to Dec 17]

With curiosity, i came back digging for information on this new constellation. The results and characteristic findings were so accurate, its probably the first time i felt the connection with horoscopes.

The description were so close, that i went… Wow…

The shift of the stars probably brought outrage and identity crisis to many especially more when they have followed them closely. While i on the other, thought it fit me in so perfectly.

Probably one of the few that is pro of the new star shift…

Has it affected you?

Complacent

06 Nov

For these couple of months and on many occasions, i felt that my time usage isn’t as effective and i could do more than just the usual working hours.

I look back and compared to the times when i had to manage the closing (sales), operations, be the ‘delivery man’ to the ‘debt collector’ till the today’s single role of just meeting clients and make sure their specifications are right before we start of the project.

It’s not as busy as before, (thankfully to) with my team who has helped to ‘automate’ the process.

Now  i worked 5 days a week. 8am to 7:30pm and that’s it.
(Comparing to the days back at Tanjong Pagar where the daily working hours was close to 10pm, until the guards threaten to close the gates if i don’t move the car out of the car park and with frequent visit back to office on Saturdays for another 4 hours of work).

Blessed, i think i am a little more comfortable now and the company is making many times more when it first started and my time gets more free up. But on the other hand, the extra good hours could be used for planning, better marketing strategy or design a better customers’ experience… perhaps…

I need to revisit my goals…

My-Daddy

16 Jan

‘Since young, the impression my daddy gave me was cheerful, easygoing, generous and mischievous. Yes, old and playful. My dad was also an outstanding chief.

When i was a kid, he”ll brew a cup of milo for me every morning and would put on my socks for me when i”m late for school. During the weekends when i don’t have to attend classes, I’ll follow him to the market where he’ll purchase his supplies (usually seafood) from his usual supplier, Jeffrey. You might ask why would a 7 year old kid be keen to accompany his dad to such an uninteresting market place?

Well, that”s because i have this little agenda at the back of my head… of picking up new gadgets along the long stretch of provision shops (it’s also called ”mama” shop, where it’s usually operated by some Indian uncles). Whenever we strolled passed them, I’ll usually set my eyes on an attractive piece and i”ll say: “Daddy, I want that one!”

Sometimes he’ll reject me, but i know he’ll give in when i insist… and preying on that soft spot, I always got what i wanted.

Apart from the toys, another point which might have contributed to my eagerness is the breakfast. We’ll always get 2 half boil eggs, 1 Milo, 2 slice of kaya toast when we are at the coffee shop and it’ll be my favourite bean curd jelly when we are at the hawker.

Whenever we are done with the meal, he’ll always give me the “Let’s Go” signal by tilting his head 30 degree to the right.

During my teens, I was a C grade student and there was this year where i flunk my exams and i had to repeat another year for the course of study while my friends got promoted. I was miserable and I burrowed myself under the pillow when i got home.

It was then daddy came over and told me: “Eddie, studies is like my business, sometimes the sales are good and there are times where it’s not good. Just try again”.

Just three days ago (Friday night), he felt a sharp pain in his stomach and was admitted to the hospital. The doctors figured that there was a gigantic ulcer in his stomach and his blood was contaminated. An operation was performed immediately on his stomach to remove the infected area.

When i visited him on Saturday morning, he had tubes sticking into him all over the places and he was relying on the machinery to breath in the ICU. In his semi conscious state (he was injected with morphine to reduce the pain), he realized that I’m next to him and fought himself awake. He struggled his hand towards me and I held his hand. He seems to be saying something but i couldn’t figured. Anxious, he exerted more strength to hold mine and blood squirted out from the needles where glucose was meant as input for him. Nurse rushed in, and i was asked to stay outside.

Saturday Evening, as usual, i was at his bedside and when he awoke and saw us, he fought to stay up and he tried to talk… With the test tubes structured to be inserted from his mouth into the stomach, he was only able to make some sounds. He then requested the nurse to remove the flem that has accumulated in this throat. Everyone (includes my mum, my brother and myself) was then required to stay outside of the ICU again… The removal was a painful process judging by the difficult sound that i heard behind his curtain. After the removal, daddy fell back to sleep, it might be the drug…

Sunday Morning. I received a call and was informed that dad”s condition has worsen. His blood pressure has dropped significantly, throughout the night and doctors has been injecting him with drugs to keep his blood pressure high. After injecting, BP rose back to normal and fell back to low again. Inject and fell again. By this time, his kidney had failed and doctors plant in a dialysis machine to lessen the load on his heart.

At 1220 pm, the alarm outside his ward went off with the text “Code Blue, ward 31″ flashing in orange light all over the ICU. That time, all the nurses rushed to the ward and they drew the curtain so that it blocks off the view from us. I heard loud sound of ”Tsk Boom” coming behind curtain, and soon another one. I believe it’s the electro metal plates where they press it on the patient’s chest to recover his heartbeat. Then nurses were shouting loudly across the room requesting for a particular drug and this form of shouting had became their most efficient way to communicate at those moment.

When the nurse pick up a drug from a place to another, they ran to get them. The room was messy with the nurses shouting, running and random beeping coming from machineries. There’s absolutely nothing we could do except froze there and watch helplessly.

After a 40 min of resuscitation, my daddy had passed away at 1pm without leaving any last words behind…

It”s monday 530am now and I”m writing this while mending at the wake…

Rather than choosing to mourn over his departure, I will and i am proud to have inherited his characteristic as a playful, jovial and easy going person. Daddy, we love you…

Jesus Said:
“I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me shall live even if he dies…” John 11:25′
